Description: We know that Henry and Luther was twins but they can't seem to agree on when they were born. The earlier Censuses has them the same age but here is where it gets confusing.Henry's WWI draft card has his birth as Marc 13 1887 but his death certificate has his birth date as Mar 13 1885 and Luther, his twin birth date is listed as April 13 1888- it seems that all they can agree is the 13th , I will try and find a death cert, or draft card for Luther and see what it says,

Henry Langley married Irene Bedford Oct. 17th 1920 and settled in Oakdale.Tn.

Herman Winfred Liles Sr. Born November 7, 1918. His birth certificatewas never found. His 1st. grade teacher was still alive when heapplied to retire from the coalmines and helped him to get hissocial security and miner's retirement started. Thaat and his socialsecurity records was all that was ever acquired. He died March 19,1990 and is buried in Pence cemetery, Pence, Indiana. He was the sonof William Thomas "Tom" & Susan Jane Langley Liles. He worked in thecoalmines of TN and about 1955 moved to Indiana and worked at HarrisonSteel Mills in Attica IN. After a lay off at Harrison's he workedfor farmers and for years he ran the grain elevator at Steward, IN. Hewent back to work in the coalmines at Newman IL around the sprring of1971, and retired from the coalmines in mid 1983. Daddy's entiresiblings spell their last name Liles, but we are be related to peoplewith a spelling of Lyles. Not sure how the spelling was changed. Someof the Tennessee cousins say it was when a man had a feud with some ofhis family. Out of resentment he changed the "I" to a "Y". Nobodyseems to know for sure. You need to keep in mind that these were "HillPeople". Most of them had little formal education. My father could notread nor write and his opinion of education was that he had donealright without it so why would anyone else need it. Don'tmisunderstand; he was not an ignorant person by any stretch of theimmigration. He would pick up a stick in the yard and scratch outnumbers in the dirt and he could figure out pretty much anything hewanted to. I believe he went to school part time until about thirdgrade. When he lived in TN he had moonshine still and my brother Ron,who is just five years older than meme, said he could remember goingwith dad once to his still's hiding place. He could witch water anddig roots and herbs that naturalist now find priceless. As kids wenever went to the doctor when we were sick. We were given herbs andhad to drinink some of the worst tasting things that could be boiled up,but we lived through it. Dad loved dogs, hounds mostly, & was verygood shot squirrel hunting with his old shotgun. He played thefiddle and loved country music. He loved the TV show of the sixty "TheBeverly Hillbillies". He could relate to it and had sayings in hisvocabulary similar to Jed Clampet, but compared to dad's family Jedlooked like a Wall Street banker in a designer suite.

GOUGE, REV. JERRY LYNN, Coalfield Minister, died Sunday, Sept. 9,2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after preaching at anarea church. Mr. Gouge was a member of Big Mountain Baptist Church inOliver Springs. According to Mr. Gouge'e's family, he dedicated hislife to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. His last moments werespent preaching the 23rd Psalm. He had a deep love for everyone and aburden for the lost, his family said, adding that in the face of painand death, hhe praised God for all he had and thanked him for the dayshe had given him. They described him as a wonderful father andgrandfather and a devoted brother who was an honest, hard-working andrespected man of God. Mr. Gouge is survived by his wife, BeatriceWest Gouge; three daughters, Sarah Gouge, Shelena Gouge and LauraWilson and her husband, Tim, all of Coalfield; two grandchildren,Caleb and Brenton, also of Coalfield; four sisters, Kay Gamble and herhusband, Tom, of Harriman, Rose Tarner and Opal Covington, both ofCoalfield, and Carol Daugherty and her husband, Larry, of Virginia;and four brothers, Frank Windham and James O. Gouge Jr. and his wife,Patsy Moore Gouge, all of Coalfield, Billy Gene Gouge and his wife,Laura White Gouge, of Clinton and Eddie Windham and his wife, Donna,of Oakdale. Mr. Gouge is also survived by his "second" mother, AnnaLaura West of Windrock; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,nieces, nephews and cousins. Donnie Tinker was considered a specialfriend. He was preceded in death by another daughter, Vanessa Rose;his parents, James O. Gouge Sr. and Rena Liles Gouge; three sisters,Alma Jane Marsh, Mary Wilma Edwards and Helen Sue Pelfrey; hisfather-in-law, Jesse Boyd West; two brothers-in-law, Randall West andFrank Tarner; and three nephews, Larry Wayne Daugherty, James DavidEdwards and Billy Lee Gouge. Paul Henry Noe, age 82, of Oliver Springs, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 8, 1937 in Morgan County, Tennessee, the son of Bill and Anna Mae Noe. He graduated from Coalfield High School in 1955. Paul served our country in the U. S. Army from 1956-1959. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he was a dispatcher clerk with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and ministering at local food banks. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Pat Noe; sons, Shannon Noe, Oak Ridge and Trevor Noe, Knoxville; daughter, Jennifer Harris and husband Robbie, Oliver Springs; stepsons, Scott Treece and wife Grace, Oliver Springs and Derrick Treece and wife Susan, Clinton; three grandchildren, grandson, Seth Treece, granddaughters, Hannah Treece and Mia Harris; sister, Margaret Queener and husband Jack, Knoxville; brothers, Bobby Noe and wife Anna, Oliver Springs and Ralph Noe and wife Teresa, Oliver Springs.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Oliver Springs Cemetery, Oliver Springs, TN with Teresa B. Noe officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in memory of Paul to Hope for the Hungry, PO Box 217, Coalfield, TN 37719.

Bedford of Coalfield andWilliam Thomas Bedford, who is deceased. Mrs. Moore had been alifelong resident of Coalfield. She had been employed by Kyser-RothIndustries for 22 years, by Red Kap Industries for six years, andMethodist Medical Center for four years. She was the widow of the Rev.William L. "W.L." Moore. She wwas a member of Elverton PrimitiveBaptist Church. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Moore is survived bythree sons, William Darrell Moore and his wife, Linda, and MichaelJason Moore and his wife, Nikki, all of Coalfield, and James DeanMoore and hiis wife, Tena, of Clinton; two daughters, Thelma RoseSeiber and her husband, Hubert, of Wartburg, and Lois Ann Campbell andher husband, Charles, of Harriman; 10 grandchildren, Jeff, Megan,Chris, Dustin, Charles, Jennifer, Adam, Daniel, LeiAnn and Brandon;and two great-grandsons, Guage and Wesley.
