    CARSON, MARY JUANITA - age 87, a resident of the Back Valley Community in Coalfield, died peacefully Friday, February 13, 2009 at the home of her nephew. Ms. Carson was born April 7, 1921 in Coalfield. She was a lifelong resident of Morgan County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church however she attended Middle Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and outdoor activities. Ms. Carson was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Christenberry Carson and Dora Evelyn McGlothin Carson; by brothers, Harold Kenneth Carson, Francis Wayne Carson, and Robert Lee Carson; and by a nephew, Stephen Jerry Carson. She is survived by nephews, Sammie Carson and wife Jackie of Coalfield, with whhom she made her home, and James Carson of Knoxville; by great nieces and nephews, Sam Carson Jr., Kimberly Smith, Christopher Wayne Carson, Matthew Carson and Stephanie Carson Maxie; by great-great nieces; and nephews, Steve Carson, Jill Carsonn, Autumn Smith, Halee Carson, Isaac Maxie, Charlie Maxie; and by a special great-great nephew, Cody Lively. The family will receive friends Monday, February 16, 2009 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral. The funeral will follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ronald Guthrie officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.     Funeral services were March 4 at Cross Chapel with Rev. Jack Baker officiating. Interment was in Estes Cemetery. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Joe Carson never married to the best of my knowledge. When I was achild and we moved to Back Valley in Coalfield, Joe would sometimescome to our house and play the piano. My mother, June McGlothinKesterson, told what a wonderful pianist Joe wawas but also told me hehad a problem. Years later I realized she was telling me he had aproblem with alcohol. I do not remember when Joe died, but I rememberhim playing the song "Nola" on the piano and he could make the pianokeys sing!!!! This was probably in 1960. Judy Kesterson Solis.
