Benjamin Harrison McGlothen,96, retired from the Stockton Police Department 36 hyears ago.McGlothen, who joind the Stockton force in 1922, is known to hisfriends as "Tennessee Mac". He got this namne because of his annualtrips to Coalfield to see his sisters Dora McGlothenCarson and NinaMcGlothin Justice. McGlothin and his wife usually make the journey toCoalfield in June but had to delay their trip this year. Joe Carson never married to the best of my knowledge. When I was achild and we moved to Back Valley in Coalfield, Joe would sometimescome to our house and play the piano. My mother, June McGlothinKesterson, told what a wonderful pianist Joe wawas but also told me hehad a problem. Years later I realized she was telling me he had aproblem with alcohol. BALES, JAMES ISSAC, 81, Coalfield, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 in his home. He was born Feb. 5, 1925 in Coalfield, living several years in Hazard, Ky., and eight years in Detroit, Mich., before moving back to the Coalfield area. Mr. Bales was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. He was a loving husband, father and pap-paw. He loved Coalfield and was very civic minded and was a member of the 1941 Coalfield Six Man State Championship Football Team. He was a strong supporter of the Coalfield High School and their sports programs, also a strong supporter of the Coalfield Little League Baseball and Football Teams. In addition Jim was an avid gardener. He was a United States Army veteran who served his coountry during World War II, receiving several decorations including one Bronze Star, Parachutist's Badge, Victory Metal and World War II Ribbon. He had worked at Brushy Mountain State Prison as a Security Officer from 1969 until his retirement iin 1991. He had also owned and operated Bales Esso Station of Coalfield for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert William and Ida Lee McGlothin Bales; and brother, Bert William Bales, Jr. He is survived by wife of 60 years, Willie T.E. Wilson Bales of Coalfield; son, James William Bales and wife Denise ofCoalfield; daughter, Rebecca Anne Treece and husband Kyle of Coalfield; grandchildren, David Treece and wife Stacy of Coalfield, Tiffany Denise McConkey and husband Drew of Panama City, Fla., James Bryant Bales of Knoxville and Adam Doughty of Coalfield; great-grandsons, Ian Christian Blalock of Panama City, Fla., and Luke William Treece of Coalfield; and a host of extended family members and very special friends. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1961. He retired at age 70 from A.B. Long Quarries as an equipment operator where he ran the drag-line. He is preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Dean Patterson who died August 4, 2012. They were married on November 3, 1951. Obituary for Johnny C. Cox
Johnny Carl Cox, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023. The family is deeply saddened. Johnny was born August 11, 1940, in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. He lived in Coalfield for the majority of his life. He served his country in the Air Force; owned his own “film reprocessing” company, Demco, for many years, and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. After retirement, he kept himself busy selling real estate.

Johnny never met a stranger and all who met him loved him. He could light up a room with his big smile and trademark thumbs up. His mischievous sense of humor kept his friends and family laughing. Johnny was active in the Tennessee Walking Horse business for many years and worked with friends on a horse show at Roane State each year that raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In later years of his life, his favorite place was Caney Creek Marina and spending time with friends there and at Gizmo. Even when he was a resident at the Veteran’s Home, he insisted on a tee shirt every year from the Gizmo Jam.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Eloise Cox of Oliver Springs and wife Joyce Cox of Coalfield, Tennessee, and his beloved dog Sam. He is survived by his wife Donna Cox of Oak Ridge, son John and wife Becky of Roane County, son Jeff Cox of Coalfield; grandchildren Brooklyn Nelson (Josh), Walter Cox (Jen), Kari Payne (Casey), Mackenzie Godwin (Cameron); great grandchildren Trinity Cox, Killian Payne, Atticus Cox, Josslyn Nelson, Anika Nelson, Jericho Nelson, Asher Nelson; sister Wanda Lou Walls (Royce) and brother Jerry Cox (Annie); brother in law Steve Stahl and wife Linda; numerous nieces and nephews and many close family and friends.

A gathering of remembrance to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.

Died:
Teresa "Diane" Patterson, passed away on March 15, 2019 surrounded by love after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Always with a smile, Diane could find humor in any situation and loved to joke and "cut up." Never meeting a stranger, she was a true, loving and steadfast friend.
A graduate of Coalfield High School and Knoxville Business College; she retired from the Department of Energy in 2016 after 41 years of service, retiring as Branch Chief.
A dedicated longtime member of Faith Promise Church, she was a true woman of God and her faith was the foundation of her life.
Diane was preceded in death by her father, Roby Patterson and grandparents, Rob and Emma Patterson and Clifford and Nina Justice.
She is survived and mourned by her mother, Bobbie Patterson; devoted companion, Commie Byrum; special uncle, Kermit Justice; uncle, Virgil Patterson; several cousins; large group of beloved friends and her faithful and devoted dogs, Dusty and Rusty upon whom she doted.
Honoring Diane's wishes, a graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton, Tennessee.
We have lost a beautiful light but the "fun factor" in Heaven has gone way up!
