R.A. Davis became a Lt. Colonel. After the war was over, he purchaseda farm which is now the State Honor Farm on upper Flat Fork and livedthere until his death. This farm is located about 5 miles east ofWartburg. Once during the war, he got word to his wife, Lucinda, thatthey were marching through Montgomery and asked her to come there sohe could see her. Mrs. Davis was at Montgomery at sunrise, having comealone on a horse. She waited all day and just before dark, she got tosee him marching by and could only wave to him. On the farm that R.A.Davis bought, there was a negro preacher named Henry Curd and hiswife, Vina Curd, who had been slaves. They lived on the place with Mr.and Mrs. Davis and besides preaching, he did blacksmith work on thefarm. Reuben A. DAVIS was born on 11 Apr 1832 in Harriman, RoaneCounty, Tennessee.19 He died on 6 Mar 1895 in White Oak, MorganCounty, Tennessee.20 He was buried after 6 Mar 1895 in Liberty BaptistChurch Cemetery, Wartburg, Morgan County, Tennesee.21 The name Reubenhas been found to be spelled Rueben by some sources. It is not clearwhich spelling is correct.
The following information is from a handwritten note by Lee Cross on aCivil War envelope in the Wartburg, Morgan County, Tennessee Library:Reuben A. Davis Lt. Col. 11th Tennessee Cavalry. Born 11 April 1844.Died 6 March 1895. Married Lucinda (Summers) 9 July 1857. She wasgiven his accured pension and her pension increased to $35 per month.In Pension Application of 1895 one child under 16 is named Clara AnnDavis, born 8 October 1881. Reuben A. Davis is buried in LibertyCemetery - Wartburg, Morgan County, Tennessee. Location - East ofWartburg, app. 2.7 miles from Jct. of Hwy 27 and 62, on the right sideof Hwy 62 by the Liberty Church.
