By 1885 the Craigs had moved to Roane County, Tennessee where their third child was born. They later moved to Anderson County, Tennessee.

In the 1900 census, Mabel gives her birthplace as Tennessee, her father's birthplace as North Carolina and her mother's birthplace in Tennessee. This is in conflict with information recorded by the 1880 census taker. Mabel was born in Georgia according to the 1880 census and her parents were both born in North Carolina.

Samuel's parents are living with them in Roane County. Both give their birthplace as North Carolina.

Samuel's occupation is mine foreman and the two boarders in their household in 1900 were coal miners (William & James Cristopher).
