    Notes:

From the book by Edna Wallace Seivers
"Peter, Jr., was the last born child of Peter, Sr. and Elisabeth WoodsWallace. He came to America from Ireland in 1724 when his widowedmother brought the family along with her four brothers and theirfamilies. The group settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
In 1738 Peter, Jr., married his cousin, Martha Woods. Three of hissiblings also married children of Michael Woods: William Wallacemarried Hannah Woods; Andrew Wallace married Margaret Woods; andSusanna Wallace married William Woods. In 1739 PePeter Jr., and hiswife Martah and Peter Jr's mother, Elisabeth were in Virginia. Theysettled in the part of Augusta County which in 1769 was known asBotetourt County and then in 1788 became Rockbridge Co. Their home wasonly a few miles southwest of what is now known as Lexington. Thename Rockbridge was named for the famed natural bridge.
Adjoining neighbors of Peter, Jr. and Martha were two of her sistersand one brother: Magdalen Woods McDowell-Bordon-Boyer. Sarah WoodsLapsley, and Richard Woods.
This was part of the Great Valley of Virginia, west of the Blue Ridge.Peter Jr's father-in-law and brothers William and Andrew Wallace livedabout 55 miles northeast in an area from the eastern base of theBlueRidge eastword toward Charlottesville.
Deed records from 1750 to 1768 show that Peter Jr. bought over 500acres of land, all near or bordering the James River. He owned 150.5acres on Whistle Creek and later had 315 acres on a branch of BuffaloCree, all coming from the James River. When Peter Jr's descendantscame into East Tennessee, they named the creek on their Anderson Co.farm Buffalo Creek. In 1988 this name stillo shows on road signs, both in Virginia and Tennessee.
The Wallaces and their Woods cousins were Scotch Presbyterians. PeterJr. and Martha helped their relatives, the McDowells, Lapsleys, Woods, found the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. Peter Jr's father-in-lawand brothers William and Andrew Wallace had founded the MountainPalisn Presbyterian Church near their homes.
Virginia Court recoreds show that in 1750 a suit was filed for 1738debt in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Records of Possessions, or taxes, were assessed in 1760 and 1765. In 1768 Peter, Jr., was issued a hempcertificate. On one of the property deeds, Peter Jr. is listed asfarmer of Albermarle. In 1768 he was appointed to view a road. Heserved as appraiser for serveral estates and witnessed numerous deeds, wills, and other official papers."

    Hi Bonnie,

I think that this may be the same family. I have been working on the
same line, but from the Virginia side. I am working off of researchdone several decades ago by my family out in Virginia. Thatinformation shows a line from Peter Wallace, Sr. to Sidney GregoryWallace (my greatgrandfather). The line I have looks more or less likethis:

    1) Peter Wallace, Sr. m. Elizabeth Woods
    2) Peter Wallace, Jr. m. Martha Woods (a cousin)
    3) John Wallace m. Jane Miller
    4) James Wallace m. Elizabeth Leach
    5) Sterling Leach Wallace m. Mary Jones
    6) Sterling James Wallace m. Ida Caroline Kennedy
    7) Sidney Gregory Wallace m. Amarette James Pruden

I have been using the internet to try to flesh out this information. All references to John Wallace that I have found state that he wasborn in Rockbridge Co. (Augusta Co.), Virginia; that he married JaneMiller in Greenbriar, Virginia; that she died in Anderson Co.,Tennessee; and that he died later in Stillville, Indiana. I have alsofound reference to James Wallace being born in Greenbriar, Va. I don'tknow how accurate these internet sources are though.
However, I did find transcriptions for an Irwin or Wallace cemetery inAnderson Co., TN. Included were the following:
Elizabeth Wallace born 1807, died 11-20-1884
James Wallace born 1800, died 6-13-1877 "son of John and Jane Wallace"

I am looking for any information regarding the children of James andElizabeth and any information about her family.

    Good luck,
    Beth

Dunshauglin Castle is now a ruin, heavily damaged in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Judy,

My first cousin once removed (dad's 1st cousin), Edna Wallace Seivers,
researched our line back to Peter Wallace and published it with
documentation after John she only elaborated on our direct line, butprior
to John she delved a little into the children of each child. I have acopy
of her book am would be more than happy to share whatever I have.

Although I have seen no direct evidence, the best educated guess isthat
Samuel Wallace and Beatrix Crawford were Peter Wallace's parents. Fromthe
internet I've surmised that Samuel's parent's were Robert Wallace andJanet
Wallace and that Janet and Robert were very distant cousins. It'sdifficult
to piece together the truth since everyone seems to have their ownideas on
who the parents of whom were.

I've been studying the geography of Ayrshire Scotland and discoveredthat
the Holmstone referred to in Wallace gedcoms was probably modern-day
Holmston which is only a couple of miles east of Ayr. The Craigiereferred
to is across the river from Holmston.

    http://www.multimap.com/

is a great map site for Ayrshire locals and streets, and for Ayrshirein
general with tons of links this is a great site:

This stuff is so addicting I could spend all my waking hours at it. Mywife
however finds plenty around the house for me to spend my retirementworking
    on.

    Have fun.
