    Notes:

    Fred Hamby, 98, of Coalfield, passed away June 27, 2015, at his home surrounded by family.
    Mr. Hamby was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Catoosa and lived most of his life in Coalfield.
    Mr. Hamby was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of Petros Masonic Lodge, Black Diamond #625 F&A.M. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and was known as a great storyteller.
    Mr. Hamby enjoyed his work, which spanned from farming, coal mining, working at a saw mill, TVA, Alcoa Aluminum Plant, TN Eastman, AEC, MSI, Rust Engineering, culminating employment with the City of Oak Ridge. He retired from the Oak Ridge Water Plant at the age of 75.
    He was preceded in death by his father, William Hamby; mother, Clara Ruppe Hamby; first wife, Ruth McGlothin Hamby; second wife, Lois Napier Hamby; daughter, Peggy Hamby Jones; sons-in-law, Bill McPeters and Joe Teague; great-grandson, Mitchell Lindsay; brother, Charles Hamby; and four sisters, Stella Melhorn, Louella Melhorn, Lena Henley and Katie Hamby.
    Mr. Hamby is survived by his daughters, Karen Teague of Coalfield, Ann Lindsay and husband David of Coalfield, Rita Brown and husband David of Oceanside, Calif.; step-children, H.B. Napier of Atlanta Ga., Sharon Jackson of Coalfield and Mark Napier and wife Sherenia of Coalfield; grandchildren, Katrina Moore and husband Gerald, Scott McPeters and wife Kyla, Elizabeth Roberts and husband Randy, Brad Jones and wife Nicole all of Coalfield, Lee Couture and husband Marty of Michigan, John Lindsay and wife April of Powell, Andy Brown of California, Paul Brown and wife Jessica of Clinton and Pamela Klicka and husband Andrew of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Maegan Mooneyhan and husband Aaron, Zach Moore and fiance Caitlyn Wakefield, Dalton and Drake Roberts, Katelyn and Levi McPeters, Chandler and Naomi Jones all of Coalfield, Ryan Couture of Connecticut, Austin Couture and fiance Taylor Kanaby, Jared and Andrea Couture all of Michigan, Trevor Bogard and fiance Brittany Evans of Oak Ridge, Cameron, Madison, Carley, Max and Molly Lindsay of Powell and Elias Klicka of Clinton; great-great-grandchildren, Gracie and Marlie Mooneyhan of Coalfield and Carter Bogard of Oak Ridge; sister, Wilma Walker of Harriman; brother-in-law, Robert E. Jones of Oliver Springs; several step-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and many special friends.
    The family received friends, Monday, June 29, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The funeral followed at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Corey Jones and Rev. Mack Smith officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

    HAMBY, RUTH McGLOTHIN, 88, of Coalfield, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003,at her home with her husband, daughters and family by her side. BornDec. 2, 1915, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Robert HarveyMcGlothin and Maude Hinds McGlothin. Mrs. Hamby was a teacher whobegan her career in 1935 in a one-room school in Ruppee. It was duringthat time she met her husband, Fred Hamby, while boarding with hisaunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Clenice Hamby. Before moving back toCoalfield she also taught at Deermont and White Oak schools. She washonored by being elected Coalfield Teacher of the Year, Morgan CountyTeacher of the Year, Upper Cumberland Teacher of the Year and one ofthe seven teachers across the state to be nominated as TennesseeTeacher of the Year during the 1971-1972 school year. Mrs. Hamby was amember of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was active in churchprograms, including being the first librarian of the church, Sundayschool teacher and a Bible school teeacher. Her family said her hobbiesincluded photography, reading, bird watching and traveling. She alsovisited 46 of the 50 states along with Mexico and Canada. Herstepmother, May McGlothin; a brother, Glen McGlothin; two sisters,Marie Tanner anand June Kesterson; and a son-in-law, Bill McPeters, alsopreceded her in death. In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs.Hamby is survived by four daughters, Karen Teague and husband, Joe,Ann Lindsay and husband, David, and Peggy Jones, all of Coalfield, andRita Brown and husband, David, of Oceanside, Calif.; ninegrandchildren, Katrina Moore, Scott McPeters, Lee Ann Couture, JohnLindsay, Andrew Brown, Paul Brown, Pamela Klicka, Brad Jones and BethRoberts; and by 13 great-grandchildrdren. She is also survived by asister, Madge Jones and husband, Robert, of Oliver Springs; asister-in-law, Ivadell McGlothin, of Coalfield; a brother-in-law,Jesse Kesterson, of Coalfield; and by several extended family members.Her family said shshe will be remembered by many special friends andteachers. The funeral was Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in the chapel ofSharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mack Smith and theRev. Todd Hardin officiating. A graveside service was to be at 11 a.m.Monday, Dec. 15, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver SpringsHighway. [Oak Ridger]
