Cause of death: "shock due to gunshot to the left side of face and head". Per death certificate.

Per Ancestry death records, Samuel lived in Lake City (Knoxville Co.) Tennessee. Lake City is in Anderson Co. His death reportedly occurred in Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee. Family legend, however, has his death as being at his residence. Peer family, Samuel was mean and abusive towards his family. As he arrived home one day, his son, Henry, stuck a gun out the window and shot him dead. This information was obtained from one of Samuel's descendants and at the time, Henry was still alive but had never been charged with murder. J Spradlin 02-04-13.

Samuel married Ethel Lorena Rainey Webb on 1 Jun 1918. Ethel (daughter of Mary Ann Duncan, daughter of Marcus Monroe Webb and Mary Ann Duncan) was born on 13 Aug 1895 in Fagan Cemetery, Coalfield, Morgan, Tennessee, United States; died on 14 Jan 1982; was buried in Norris, Anderson, Tennessee, United States.
