Father And Son Shot To Death At Oliver Springs
Coalfield Men Held In Double Slaying Of Anderson Countians. An Anderson county father and his 15-year old son were shot to death in front of the father's restaurant near Oliver Springs.Tuesday night by a group of young men from Coalfield,who were said to have been drinking. Instantly killed was Sol Russell,65, of the Cove community, near Windrock,in Anderson County,and fatally
wounded was his son,Virgil. The shooting took place at 7p.m.Tuesday.The restaurant is said to be about three miles from Oliver Springs on Highway 61 in Roane county.Four men were being held in Kingston jail charged with murder.Officers said they were Ellis Wood,who reported to have fired the shots, A.W. Butler 21, Alf Chapman 21 and Junior Russell,all of Coalfield.A soldier,said to have been with the group,was freed. According to citizens of Oliver Springs,the Coalfield men had been drinking and while at Russell restaurant tried to persuade a girl to get in the car with them. Russell's son-in-law,Otto Pearson,interferred and there
