    • FUTRELL, DR. EDWARD (TOMMY) - 67 of Johnson City who went home to be with the Lord will have funeral services held Thursday, May 30, 2002 8 p.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church, Johnson City, Tenn. Burial and graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oak Ridge, Tenn. Dr. Futrell was a pastor in the East Tenn. area for over 30 years. He was a member of Clark Street Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Futrell; two daughters, Denise Futrell, Lawrenceville, Ga. and Deborah Eubank, Somerset, Ky.; two brothers; three sisters and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Clark Street Baptist Church, Building Fund, 200 Clark Street, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601 or Southside Baptist Church 1928 Wheeler St., Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.     Obituary for Dr. Edward "Tommy" Futtrell 
    • Dr. EDWARD "Tommy" FUTRELL, 67, of 3204 Buckingham Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home following an extended illness. Dr. Futrell was a native of Coalfield and had lived in Johnson City for the past 20 years. He was the son of Lewis and Lassie King Futrell, who are deceased.

      He had been a pastor in East Tennessee for over 30 years and served as a trustee of the North American Mission Board/Home Mission Board.

      Dr. Futrell was chaplain for the Johnson City Police Department and was the starting member of the volunteer Johnson City Medical Center chaplain staff.

      He was a member of Clark Street Baptist Church in Johnson City.

      His family said all who knew him will miss his wisdom, strength, faithfulness and love. They described him as a steadfast warrior of the faith and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a pastor and mentor who taught through example of his own life, they said.

      Dr. Futrell is survived by his wife of 46 years, Roberta A. Futrell; two daughters, Denise Futrell of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Deborah Eubank and her husband, Lee, of Somerset, Ky.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Joe Futrell and Sue and Gilbert Barber, all of Coalfield, Terry and Marsha Futrell of Kingston, Barbara and Franklin "Buddy" Poland of Spring City, and Margaret and James Rather of Oliver Springs. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Elizabeth Whitehouse and Andrew Whitehouse, both of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews.

      The funeral was held Saturday night, June 1, at Southside Baptist Church in Johnson City with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker, the Rev. Michael Anglin and the Rev. John Wood officiating. A graveside service was held Sunday, June 2, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Dr. Futrell's nephews, David Johnson, Bill Johnson, Mark Rather, Dennis Poland, Mike Futrell, Tim Futrell, Wesley Wyrick and Derrick Rather, served as pallbearers.

      The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Clark Street Baptist Church, 200 Clark St., Johnson City, TN 37601; or to the Building Fund at Southside Baptist Church, 1928 Wheeler St., Johnson City, TN 37601.

      Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City handled the arrangements.
