- RUFFNER, RALPH WILLIAM, 71, of Coalfield, died Sunday, April 3, 2005,at his home. The son of Doyle and Lucille Ruffner, he was born March1, 1934, in Harlan County, Ky. He moved back to Tennessee in 1991. Mr.Ruffner was a U.S. Air Force veteran w who served his country during theKorean War. He was a retired computer analyst for the J.L. HudsonCompany. Mr. Ruffner was an avid gardener and reader, and was a memberof the Coalfield Library Association and also Coalfield Genealogy. Hewas also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member ofPleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. In addition to hisparents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, SydneyClanagan, and two brothers, Donald and Harold Ruffner. Mr. Ruffner issurvived by his six children, Ralph William Ruffner Jr. of Oak Ridge,Patricia Ann Stroble and husband, Michael, of Detroit, Mich., ThomasEarl Ruffner and wife, Denise, of Pasadena, Calif., Margaret AnnClanagan of York, Penn., Charles Michael Ruffner and wife, Jodi, ofMurphysboro, Ill., and Jonathan Ruffner and wife, Lori, of York,Penn.; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Earl Thomas Ruffner ofCoalfield, and Jimmy D. Ruffner of Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Ruffner is alsosurvived by a hosost of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, in the chapelof Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mack Smithofficiating. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m.Friday, April 8, at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. In lieuofflowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to theCoalfield Public Library, P.O. Box 157, Coalfield, TN 37719. Thefamily will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeralhome. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs in charge of arrangements.[Oak Ridger]
