  	Charles A. Sampsel Jr., 75, of Harriman died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1996, in Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born April 23, 1920, in Coalfield to the late Arthur and Mary (Jackson) Sampsel. He was a pipefitter with Martin Marietta Energy Systems and had retired from HFIR after 20 years of service. A member of Trenton Street Baptist Church in Harriman where he served as a deacon, Sampsel also participated in numerous mission trips through the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Mission Board. He was also a member of the Southern Baptist Convention disaster relief of Tennessee. He was a life-long member of Southgate Masonic Lodge No. 569 in Harriman and was also a member of Pipefitter Local No. 718 in Oak Ridge. He enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, barbequing and making jellies and jams, his family said. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Wall Sampsel. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Donald and Brenda Sampsel of Oak Ridge; a duaghter and son-in-law, Norma and Jack Freeman of Dalton, GA; six grandchildren: Millie Weller of Cookeville, Howard Sampsel and Sonya Anderson of Knoxville, Melissa Hale of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Freeman of Sarasota, FL., and Brittany Norvell of Oak Ridge; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Vicgtoria Anderson and Tommy Weller; a sister, Lahoma Ray of Harriman; and two brothers, Roy of Coalfield and Elbert of Hopewell, VA. Funeral was 11 a.m. Friday, january 18, in Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman and burial followed in Estes Cemetery in Coalfield with the Revs. Larry Wilbanks and Charles Kelley officiating. A Masonic service was held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, also in the funeral home.
