    • Charles Melhorn, age 88, a resident of Coalfield, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

      Mr. Melhorn was born September 21, 1921 in Coalfield. He lived in the Coalfield community all of his life.

      He was an active member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran who served his country in WWII. He worked at both the K-25 and Y-12 plants in heating and air conditioning until his retirement in 1983.

      Charles was a member of the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge # 624 F & AM, a 32nd degree Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Sunrise Chapter # 364 where he formerly served as Worthy Patron.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjiman O. Melhorn and Vesta Jones Melhorn, by a daughter in law, Patsy Melhorn, by brothers; Clay, Herman, Elijah, Edward, Robert, Clyde and Rudolph Melhorn and by a sister Anna.

      He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgia Jackson Melhorn of Coalfield, by a son, Randel Melhorn, by grandchildren; Lee Ann Denny and husband Matthew, and Chris Poole and wife Mary Jane all of Houston, TX, by a sister Elnora Lawson and husband Jerry, of Petros, by brothers, Otto Melhorn and Ralph Melhorn and wife Yvonne all of Wartburg, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.

      The family will receive friends Friday, January 29, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Foster officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
