      Oliver Springs, TN

      Richard McKinley Davis Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at his home with his family by his side.

      He was born in Coalfield, Tennessee. He was raised and lived in Oliver Springs his entire life. He graduated from Oliver Springs High at the age of 16, received a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee and his master's from University of Arizona. He started teaching at the age of 18 at Oliver Springs and was also principal there for 36 years. He was held in the highest esteem by his students and precious faculty, who were his best friends. Richard spent his whole life as a conservationist and caretaker of the environment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Richard M. Davis Sr. and sister, Margaret June.



      He is survived by sisters, Frances Lowe (Cliff) and Patricia Moss (Chip), niece, Lisa Rogers (Jack), nephews, Shannon and Trevor Noe.



      Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Steve Smith, Joey VanHook, Esq, Steve Thurmer, Richard Powlus, Jim Lett, Trevor and Shannon Noe, Chip Moss and Cliff Lowe.



      Special thanks to family friend, Darlene Upchurch and Mimi Brock, Margot Spore, Gweyn Johnson, Donna Whedbee and for all the wonderful prayers.



      Richard chose to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 6:00pm. Please bring your best "Mr. Davis" stories to share with us.



      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oliver Springs Historical Society, PO Box 409.
