- Clara Nell Roberson Ward, 92, of the Coalfield Community
passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009. She was born on
January 2, 1917, in Peachtree, NC.
She was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church where she
taught Sunday School for many years. She was also active
in church projects. She was a member of the Eastern Band
of the Cherokee Nation on the Baker Roll. She attended
boarding school on the Cherokee Reservation as a young
girl. She greatly enjoyed fishing, baking, and quilting.
She often shared baked goods and hand made quilts with her
friends and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years,
Howard H. Ward; her two daughters, Sandra Jean Ward and
Sylvia Jo Wallace; four brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Midge and husband, Leon
Crookshanks of Rupert, WVA; two sons, Lonnie and wife, Sue
Ward of Oliver Springs, TN, and Tommy and wife, Janie Sue
Ward of Coalfield; one son-in-law, William Wallace of
Coalfield; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren;
four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 9, 2009,
between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., at Sharp Funeral
Home.
The funeral will follow at 8 p.m., in the funeral home
chapel with Rev. Wayne Morgan officiating.
Burial and Graveside services will be held Friday, July
10, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Butler Cemetery.
