- GOUGE, REV. JERRY LYNN, Coalfield Minister, died Sunday, Sept. 9,2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after preaching at anarea church. Mr. Gouge was a member of Big Mountain Baptist Church inOliver Springs. According to Mr. Gouge'e's family, he dedicated hislife to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. His last moments werespent preaching the 23rd Psalm. He had a deep love for everyone and aburden for the lost, his family said, adding that in the face of painand death, hhe praised God for all he had and thanked him for the dayshe had given him. They described him as a wonderful father andgrandfather and a devoted brother who was an honest, hard-working andrespected man of God. Mr. Gouge is survived by his wife, BeatriceWest Gouge; three daughters, Sarah Gouge, Shelena Gouge and LauraWilson and her husband, Tim, all of Coalfield; two grandchildren,Caleb and Brenton, also of Coalfield; four sisters, Kay Gamble and herhusband, Tom, of Harriman, Rose Tarner and Opal Covington, both ofCoalfield, and Carol Daugherty and her husband, Larry, of Virginia;and four brothers, Frank Windham and James O. Gouge Jr. and his wife,Patsy Moore Gouge, all of Coalfield, Billy Gene Gouge and his wife,Laura White Gouge, of Clinton and Eddie Windham and his wife, Donna,of Oakdale. Mr. Gouge is also survived by his "second" mother, AnnaLaura West of Windrock; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,nieces, nephews and cousins. Donnie Tinker was considered a specialfriend. He was preceded in death by another daughter, Vanessa Rose;his parents, James O. Gouge Sr. and Rena Liles Gouge; three sisters,Alma Jane Marsh, Mary Wilma Edwards and Helen Sue Pelfrey; hisfather-in-law, Jesse Boyd West; two brothers-in-law, Randall West andFrank Tarner; and three nephews, Larry Wayne Daugherty, James DavidEdwards and Billy Lee Gouge. The funeral will be held at 8 tonight,Sept. 11, in the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home inWartburg with theRev. Don Ambrose and the Rev. Harold Duncan officiating. A gravesideservice will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at JacksonCemetery in Coalfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8tonight at the funeral home. [Oak Ridger]
