- Roy Chambers, age 86, of Solway, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at the Golden Living Center-Windwood in Clinton.
Roy was born May 15, 1925, in Scott County, Tenn., to the late George and Mary Elizabeth Thompson Chambers. Roy was an honorably discharged World War II veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. He married his wife of 60 years on March 16, 1951, and was a loving husband and father. Roy enjoyed fishing and playing golf but loved working and after his retirement from Martin Marietta, he kept busy with remodeling and making additions to their home.
Preceded in death by two brothers, Milford and Herbert, and five sisters, Margaret, Betty, Mazie, Gladys, and Alta, he is survived by his loving wife, June Chambers, of Solway; two sons, Roger S. Chambers and his wife, Jane, of Bristol, Tenn., and George T. Chambers and his wife, Lisa, of Birmingham, Ala.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Chambers, Lorien Chambers, and Vincent Schultz.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts be sent to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc., 2270 Sutherland Ave., Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919.
