Notes - Burden met with John Lewis at Williamstown in 1736, spent time with him at Bellefont. Sir William (Gooch?) issued to Burden a patent for 500,000 acres of land on the Shennandoah or James Rivers on condition that within 10 years he should have not less than 100 families on the land with 1000 acres for every family settled or cabin built, with the privilege of purcharsing an additional adjacent 1000 acres at one shilling per acre! He presented this information to the McDowells to entice them to become settlers.
Note: The Burdens who stayed in New Jersey became Borden.
