- COX, ELMER L. - age 89, a resident of Knoxville and formerly of
Coalfield, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2001. Mr. Cox was preceded indeath by his parents, Willie Martin Cox and Allie Mae Lively Cox,bytwo sons, Joseph Cox and Ronnie Cox, by two brothers, Albert Cox andTom Cox, and by two sisters, Oma Cox and Ethel McCartt. Survivors:wife of 70 years, Hazel Bunch Cox of Knoxville; sons, Jack Cox andwife Dolma of New Castle, Delaware, Don Cox and wife Joann ofWartburg, Tommy Cox and wife Shirley of Strawberry Plains, and HueyCox and wife Linda of Strawberry Plains; daughters, Aileen Mills ofStrawberry Plains, Mary Ruth Wilder of Jefferson City, Tenn., Olaf"Dodie" Flynn of Knoxville, Bessie Russell and husband Roy CliffordRussell of Oliver Springs; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren,and five great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ella Miller of PhenixCity, Alabama, and Dorothy Melton of Oliver Springs; brother, JamesFrank Cox and wife Elizabeth of Coalfield. Mr. Cox was born October12, 1911, in Anderson County. He lived in Coalalfield for 26 yearsbefore moving to Knoxville in 1971. He is a retired coal miner. Heworked for Moores Coal Companyand Windrock Coal Company, and he alsoworked in Bonnie Blue, Virginia, and Harlan, Kentucky. Burial andgraveside services will be held Monday, May 28, 2001, at 10 a.m. atIndian Creek Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home, is in charge of thearrangements. [Knoxville News Sentinal]
