    • GIBSON, COACH JIM "HOOT" ? age 69, passed away Friday morning, Jan.21, 2005, at his home In Wartburg, after a courageous battle with lungCancer. Mr. Gibson was born Feb. 17, 1935 in Morristown, Tn. andgraduated from Morristown High School in 1954. He served in the Armyfrom 1954 to 1956. He attended Carson Newman College from 1956- 1960where he was an outstanding Football player. He received his MastersDegree in Education in 1970 from Tenn. Tech. He was employed as aFootball Coach and tteacher in the East Tenn. area for 38 years. Hiscoaching career took Him to Coalfield, Elizabethton, Wartburg, UnicoiCo., Loudon, Scott Co. Clinton, Rockwood and Kingston, which led tomuch success as well as Many close friendships. Mr. Gibson was amember of Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by hisparents; Margaret Stahl and James H.       Gibson, veteran coach, dies

      Coach Gibson, who played football at Carson-Newman College 1956-60 andcoached at nine high schools in East Tennessee, died Friday morningafter a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 69. The family of coach Jim"Hoot" Gibson will receive friends 5-9 p.m. Sunday at SchubertMortuary in Wartburg.
      Coach Gibson's 1981 Kingston Yellow Jackets were state Class AArunners-up to top-ranked Brentwood Academy. It was Gibson's secondtour of duty at the Roane County high school.
      After graduating from Morristown High School in 1954, Coach Gibsonspent two years in the U.S. Army, then was hired to coach at Coalfieldin Morgan County. Two seasons later, he began a three-year stint atElizabethton, four at Kingston, three at Erwin, one at Scott Countyand back to Kingston for five. He also coached at Rockwood andClinton. He received is Master's from Tennessee Tech. He taught andcoached for 38 years.
      A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Schubert FuneralHome in Wartburg. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens. Memorials may bemade to the Carson-Newman Hall of Fame fund (Attn. Susie Trentham,C.N. Box 72017, Jefferson City 37760).
